- Ripe Avocados: Two of them! The key is to find avocados that have just a little give when you press them gently.
- Good Bread: Two to four thick slices. Sourdough is my absolute favorite for this, but a hearty whole grain or a rustic loaf works wonders too.
- Lime: Half of one. This is non-negotiable! It adds that fresh zing and keeps the guac from browning too quickly.
- Red Onion: About a quarter, finely diced. It adds a nice little crunch and bite.
- Fresh Cilantro: A small handful, chopped. If you're not a cilantro fan, you can totally leave it out.
- Salt and Pepper: To taste, of course.
- Optional Toppings: A sprinkle of red pepper flakes for heat, some cherry tomatoes, or even a fried egg on top... yum!
Toast Your Bread: First things first, get your bread nice and toasty. You want it golden brown and sturdy enough to hold all that guacamole goodness without getting soggy. A toaster, the oven, or even a grill pan will work perfectly.
Make the Guac: While the bread is toasting, slice your avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium-sized bowl. Add the juice from your half-lime—this is key!
Mash it Up: Grab a fork and gently mash the avocado. I like to leave it a little chunky for texture, but you can go as smooth as you like.
Mix Everything In: Add your finely diced red onion, chopped cilantro, a pinch of salt, and a crack of black pepper. Give it all a good stir to combine. Now's the time to taste it and see if it needs a little more salt or lime. Trust your taste buds!
Assemble Your Toast: Once your toast is ready, it's time for the final step. Spoon a generous amount of that beautiful guacamole onto each slice and spread it out to the edges. Add any extra toppings you’re feeling, and you're done! Serve it immediately and enjoy.
